Karsten’s venture “Holzwege” (Heidegger: Off the beaten track) not only gave a lot of insights into the “Other Adventurous Project” concept of the expedition, but also saw the first dog in Germany joining a Gold expedition. On the picture, Avi seems a little bit tired of too much map reading – but the dog had his fun, too.

“I was pretty sure that walking more than 80 kilometres wouldn’t pose any problem to the six year old Border Collie, but I wasn’t so certain about spending three nights together with him under a tarp in the Black Forest”, Karsten said. “But surprisingly he also enjoyed the nights very much, listening, like me, to the falling snow.”

“Sometimes Avi’s route finding skills were better than mine and his nose dwarfed my eyes ”, Karsten added. “Though probably a stranger to philosophical reasoning, Avi would have preferred walking ‘off the beaten track’ all the time – and was the first of us arriving at Heidegger's snow-covered lodge in Todtnauberg.”
