Our colleagues in the Netherlands have spent many months working hard to coordinate the 1st International Youth Event EMAS Region. The event took place in Bernheze in the south of the Netherlands over the Easter week and hosted representatives from throughout the EMAS Region. The participants worked on developing the foundations of an EMAS Region Gold Award Holders Association and they discussed the important topic of Social Safety. In addition to this, the participants enthusiastically undertook a number of exciting excursions and cultural activities relating to the four sections of the Award.

Our colleagues in the Netherlands expertly coordinated a fun-packed programme for all participants as well as caring for the three special guests HRH the Earl of Essex from the UK, Prince Guillaume from Luxembourg and Princess Maxima from the Netherlands. Wim van der Laan, Director of the International Award, The Netherlands achieved a successful conclusion for the Youth Event by securing three times Olympic Champion Judo Captain Mark Huizinga as the new ambassador for the Award in the Netherlands.

Well done to our Dutch colleagues for organising such a splendid event!
