About 30 young people and their leaders are going to take part in the 6th International Summer School in Osterburken. In order to prepare this two-weeks seminar, which is organised by the German Award, Kenneth Bartram, head of the „Duke of Edinburgh’s Award“ of Bermuda, visited Osterburken on his way back from an international meeting in South Africa.
Having been welcomed by the head of the German Award, Klaus Vogel, the two of them visited the mayor of Osterburken, Jürgen Galm, in the local town hall. Mr. Galm, also patron of this year's Summer School, was very interested in his guest's long journey to Osterburken and wanted to know everything about the contents and activities of Summer School. „We are very happy about the fact that Summer School has become such a successful seminar over the years and that, each year, more and more participants from all over the world travel to Osterburken“ Mr. Galm said. He added that this was why he was very happy about being the patron of the event and why he was very much looking forward to meeting the participants in August in the „Alte Bahnmeisterei“...
Furthermore, the guest from Bermuda visited the town, the local Roman museum and the Realschule. Of major importance was a short trip to the Odenwald where the young people are going to do a practice venture during the first week of Summer School. Having completed those practice ventures they will then do their final expeditions in the Black Forest. In the meanwhile, the adults from Afghanistan, Bermuda, Germany, Finland, Kenya and Pakistan are taking part in leaders courses.
Together with other representatives from the German Award, Mr. Bantram and Mr. Vogel planned the upcoming event. At the end, Mr. Bartram thanked the town of Osterburken and the German Award for their hospitality: „I'm very happy about the well organised 6th Summer School and I'm sure that our meeting is going to contribute to a successful event“, he said. Mr. Vogel thanked him for his visit and wished the biggest group of participants a good journey.
